This sub-series holds material which reveals the operations of this very significant unit, central to the operations of the Privy Council. There are memoranda from Dr. R.J. Jackson, head of this unit, to the Minister which illustrate how the unit worked in preparing legislation, which comment on the legislative system as a whole and which address issues of reforming and streamlining the unit's working. There are some Cabinet documents here on the legislative process, as well as on the government's legislative program. There are also records on the Legislation and House Planning Secretariat and the progress of legislation through committee and House stages.
