There is a large date spread here, 1963-1969, covering three ministries led by Allan J. MacEachen, the Departments of Labour, National Health and Welfare and Manpower and Immigration. Many of these files simply run over from one ministry into another. Thus, this is a very diverse sub-series. There are some political files here on the General Federal Election of 1965, and on Nova Scotia and Richmond-Inverness Liberals. There are files on the promotion of economic development in Nova Scotia - Agricultural and Rural Development Act projects in Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Development Corporation, Cape Breton coal and Sydney Steel.

The Labour files predominate in this sub-series, and touch on industrial relations, the Seamen's International Union, the Canada Labour Code, the National Employment Service, the Canada Pension Plan and the CNR Railway Strike. The Minister's views and positions of these matters are amplified further the speeches, that are part of this sub-series. There are also some files which reflect his tenure of the Ministry of National Health and Welfare. Press releases, press clippings and speeches reflect policy and legislative programs on significant issues of the day, such as Medicare, the growing awareness of air and water pollution and the phenomenon of US draft dodgers coming to Canada.

Arrangement note:

This small sub-series consists of aggregated files arranged by the archivist, based on the content and date range of the records. The files in large part came from the same deposit boxes which held the material in Sub-series 1, Coded Minister's Office File, of this series. They have been given the name "Transitional" to connect them to the next Series, "Minister of National Health and Welfare".
