Chudobiak, John, 1900-1992 : John Chudobiak was born on September 20, 1900 in the village of Oryshkivtsi, District Husiatyn, Tarnopil Province in Austro-Hungary (now Ukraine). He immigrated to Canada in the late 1920s, leaving behind his wife and daughter in the process, and worked as a labourer in Ottawa in the 1930s. He was active in the Ukrainian Labour Farmer Temple Association, later the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians (AUUC). In 1935, he sponsored his wife and daughter to join him in Canada, and was subsequently naturalized on December 4, 1935. In 1939, Mr. Chudobiak enlisted in the Canadian Army and served in England during the Second World War. Upon his return to Ottawa from the war, he worked in the Public Service, all the while serving as a delegate to AUUC conventions in Toronto from the AUUC branch in Ottawa. Mr.Chudobiak was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch (no.16) in Ottawa. He died on February 3, 1992 in Ottawa.
