Shooting by Crawley Films for the company RAPID GRIP AND BATTEN LIMITED of Toronto, of multiple takes of a one minute sync sound speech by Prime Minister St. Laurent on the subject of the Grey Cup Game, shot in late October or early November 1954.~The speech is as follows: "My fellow Canadians, the excitement in the air today tells us that once again, it is the eagerly-awaited day of the Grey Cup Football Final. In every city and town, on the farms, even in the lonely outposts, sports-minded Canadians will be close to their radios and television sets, hearing and seeing this great Canadian football classic. It is a happy thing to have this warm healthy spirit in our land. This annual contest does much to bring together the big family that is Canada. It also demonstrates to those of other lands that spirited, unrestrained competition is very much a part of our national life. Today, at this very moment, the players representing the East and the West are preparing to give a good account of themselves on the football field of Toronto's Varsity Stadium. All of our personal good wishes go out to both teams. And we can be confident that, regardless of which team captures the historic Grey Cup, each man will have given the utmost of his effort and good sportsmanship.
