Kunz, Anita, 1956- : Anita Kunz est née à Toronto (Ontario) en 1956. Enfant, elle est fortement influencée par son oncle Robert Kunz, un illustrateur travaillant dans le domaine de l'édition scolaire. En 1978, elle obtient son diplôme de l'École des beaux-arts de l'Ontario. Au cours des dix années suivantes, son travail d'illustratrice apparaît dans des magazines canadiens de renom, dont Saturday Night et Toronto Life. Par la suite, des cabinets de design et des agences de publicité d'Allemagne, du Japon, de Suède, d'Angleterre et de France s'ajoutent à sa clientèle. De 1988 à 1990, elle est l'une des deux artistes à illustrer la rubrique « History of Rock 'n Roll » du magazine Rolling Stone. Dès lors, son travail paraît régulièrement à la une des magazines Time, Sports Illustrated, Atlantic Monthly, Fortune, GQ, Newsweek et New Yorker.
Anita Kunz a reçu de nombreux prix et distinctions pour son travail d'illustratrice. En 1997, l'Advertising and Design Club of Canada lui a décerné le prix Les Usherwood pour souligner l'ensemble de son oeuvre. En 2000, à New York, le Museum of Illustration de la Society of Illustrators lui a consacré une rétrospective de mi-carrière. Elle a aussi présenté une exposition solo à la Creation Gallery de Tokyo. À l'automne 2003, elle est devenue la première femme et la première Canadienne à réaliser une exposition solo à la Swann Gallery for Caricature and Cartoon de la Bibliothèque du Congrès, à Washington, aux États-Unis. Ses oeuvres font partie de plusieurs collections permanentes, dont celles de la National Portrait Gallery de Washington, du Musée de l'Armée de France de Paris et de la Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna de Rome.
Parallèlement à son travail d'illustratrice, Anita Kunz donne régulièrement des conférences et des ateliers dans différentes universités et institutions au Canada et à l'étranger. Elle fait également partie de plusieurs jurys et conseils d'administration voués aux arts graphiques.
Anita Kunz produit surtout des oeuvres de petits formats à l'aquarelle et à la gouache. Son travail se distingue par une abondance de détails. Comme le fait remarquer le célèbre graphiste Milton Glaser, on pourrait presque le confondre avec celui des peintres flamands, autant dans l'exécution que dans le rendu. Le talent d'Anita Kunz s'exprime aussi dans la réalisation de portraits satiriques de célébrités et de politiciens, ou lorsqu'elle explore des questions de société aussi délicates que le contrôle des armes à feu ou la recherche génétique.
Le travail d'Anita Kunz a orné plusieurs timbres de Postes Canada, notamment dans le cadre de la série « Grands illustrateurs canadiens » émise en avril 2018.
