The accession consists of the National Library of Canada Music Division's "vertical files", a collection of news clippings, articles from non-music journals, concert series brochures, promotional material, press kits, résumés, etc. that document all aspects of musical life in Canada. In total, the files pertain to 4000 Canadian musicians, musical organizations, and musical topics. These files would have been used for research and reference purposes by National Library staff as well as other research, prior to the widespread availability of electronic reference material.
