This sub-sub-series consists of a selection of photographs chosen by the official photographers that relate to activities or events attended by Stephen Harper as Prime Minister of Canada for the month of May 2010.
It includes photographs of Mr. Harper on a trip to Europe during which he visited four countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia and Germany) in five days (May 4-8). His first stop was in Brussels to attend the Canada-European Union Summit. He then travelled to the Netherlands, where he met with Prime Minister Jan Pieter Balkenende and took part in a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands at the Canadian War Cemetery in Bergen op Zoom. In The Hague, he met with Princess Margriet and Queen Beatrix at their official residence, the Huis ten Bosch Palace. During his visit to Croatia, he met with Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and President Ivo Josipovic. In Berlin, he met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and paid his respects at the 1939-1945 War Cemetery.
The photographs also document the visit by Princess Margriet of the Netherlands to 24 Sussex (May 11), a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Ottawa (May 12), the official visit of Mexican President Felipe Calderón to Ottawa (May 27), a meeting with the Aga Khan in Toronto (May 28), and a visit by Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Ben-Artzi, to the Harrington Lake residence (May 30), followed by a bilateral meeting between Harper and Netanyahu in Parliament (May 31).
In addition, the sub-sub-series documents the official ceremony marking the unveiling of the portrait of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien on Parliament Hill (May 25) and a visit by Canadian musician Bryan Adams to 24 Sussex (May 1). There are photographs of a pre-concert meeting between Mr. Harper, his daughter Rachel, and American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift in Ottawa (May 20).
