File consists of documents and a videocassette from Ian Reilly's career as a representative with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) when he worked on the conflict between the UFCW and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) regarding UFCW Local 1252, representing Newfoundland fishery workers. The videocassette consists of two documentaries: "Onward through the Fog: the story of the Cashin-White lie" and "The truth about Local 1252." File also includes a short biographical sketch of Ian Reilly.

General note:

In March 1987, Local 1252, representing Newfoundland fishery workers, disaffiliated from the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and joined the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) to become the Fishermen, Food and Allied Workers (FFAW), CAW Local 465.

Richard Cashin, lawyer and labour leader, helped organize and establish the Newfoundland Fishermen's Union (NFU) in 1970. In 1987 he was instrumental in transferring the fishery workers to the CAW.
