This sub-series consists of records relating to the operational and administrative functions of the CNLSA and the department of Colonization and Agriculture.

To this end, there is:
1. Correspondence with a wide variety of immigrants, immigrant organizations and associations, transatlantic shipping companies, and land agents;
2. Translations and publicity material relating to the departmental functions.
3. Files relating to personnel working within the department of Colonization and Agriculture.
4. Administrative records relating to personnel, including payrolls and other accounts, bank records and cancelled cheques.
5. Administrative records relating to immigrants, including money slips and receipts (documenting the resources of immigrants) and vouchers.
In many cases, the records are filed according to the various office locations of the CNLSA.
Some highlights include:
Vol 8295 - Biographies of departmental members;
Vol 8296 - 8297- Advertising and articles about land settlement; and phrase booklets for immigrants.
Vol 8298 -8299 - Information on department publicity material, including the films: Our Canadian Heritage, Canada: A Growing Land, Canadian Notebook. There is also information about CN posters, a file of 25 photographs of immigrants (see lower level description for more details), and articles about immigrant success stories.
Vol. 8327-8330 - Information compiled by C.D. James, a director of the department in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Included amongst these records are: notes from overseas trips, memos about the International Refugee Organization, speeches on citizenship, performance appraisals, departmental organization charts and job descriptions, and correspondence. There are also 46 photographs, showing groups of CN employees, of immigrants and immigration facilities, and views of CN displays at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley Park, England in 1924-25.
