This document, the Test Roll, contains the oath of allegiance and the signatures of members of the House of Commons of the Dominion of Canada for the Third Canadian Parliament. It includes signatures for the first (1874), second (1875), third (1876), fourth (1877) and fifth (1878) legislative sessions. The document has considerable historical significance, as it bears Louis Riel's signature near the bottom right of page two.

General note:

Louis Riel was elected in the February 1874 general election for the electoral district of Provencher, Manitoba. He travelled to Ottawa to sign the Test Roll (register of members) but was expelled before taking his seat, due to a motion in the House of Commons introduced by Ontario Orange Order leader Mackenzie Bowell. Louis Riel was re-elected in September 1874, but he delayed taking his seat and then was again expelled from the House.
