The material was photographed over a seven year period. The imagery was inspired by the love affair of the Roman emperor Hadrian and his Ephebe lover Antinous. A sixth image (Mithras) was edited out. Edition number 1/3 of the portfolio was purchased by the (now defunct) Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. The tale is not portrayed with live people, rather artfully photographed Roman statues from museums in Turkey, Spain, and England.

Physical description note:

Printed on Arches Aquarelle watercolour paper 140 lbs, printed at Toronto Image Works by Rebecca Gould under Jennifer Dickson's direct supervision. The edition was limited to three for reasons of fiscal constraint. There was no key print for the same reason. The final prints were printed on a full sheet of Arches Aquarelle paper 57 x 76 cm. These final proofs are approximately half size.
