Textual records (Electronic) Finding aid 12-398 is an unverified file list indicating box numbers, file prefixes, file numbers, titles, and outside dates. The file prefix indicates the office of primary interest. Files with a 'T' prefix were created by the Pacific Regional office, whereas files with a 'Z' prefix are national files maintained by headquarters. The title reflects the way that Transport Canada has historically organized and named its files. Titles begin at the Subject-level identifying the general subject, and then become more specific with each subsequent level in order to give a full description of the contents of a file. Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Pacific Regional Office of Transport Canada's Civil Aviation Branch. The records document Transport Canada's role as a Minister's Observer to the Transportation Safety Board's (TSB) investigation into the accident of Sonicblue Airways' Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft (registration mark C-GRXZ) on January 21, 2006 near Port Alberni, B.C. Accession includes records filed under the 5002-block (Aviation Safety) of Transport Canada's file classification system, which served as a liaison file with TSB and the Department of Justice for investigations and litigations related to the accident. This accession also includes records filed under the 5258 (Air carriers - Operations) and 5260 (Air carriers - Certifications) file blocks, which were created by units of the Civil Aviation Branch at Transport Canada headquarters and appear to have been collected together by the Regional Office as part of their role as Minister's Observer to the investigation. A 5258 file is opened for each air carrier to store all records related to the oversight of their regulatory requirements, while a 5260 file is opened to store records related to its operating certificates. Some records related to remedial actions taken against the air carrier, include the loss of its operating certificate, can be found in these files.
