The series contains papers relating to Thomas Albert Cromwell's early years as a student including reports, certificates as well as papers relating to his musical studies. There are also various photographs of his childhood, wedding and family.

This series also includes notes from his early career, prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court: papers relating to his work as a professor at Dalhousie University and materials relating to his work in Labour Arbitration (during 1985-1997). There is also correspondence in connection with his work at the Canadian Bar Association during 1996-1997 and information about his appointment to the Court of Appeal in Nova Scotia.

This series includes the professional daybooks from 1989 through to 2009, arranged chronologically. Among these is a directory of address and phone numbers. These offer significant insight into the professional and personal activities of Justice Cromwell in the years before his appointment to the Supreme Court.
