This fonds consists of the records created or distributed by the Canadian Freight Association documenting their monthly meetings. This includes correspondence, committee proceedings and minutes, circulars, tariffs, forms, proposals, reports, financial statements and other documents related to freight operations. Notable among these records is a 1883-1891 minute book documenting the formation of the Association.

There is also a small group of records circulated by the Association of American Railroads.

Canadian Freight Association : The Canadian Freight Association formed on October 25, 1883 (originally named The Association of General Freight Agents of Canada). The organization was revised and renamed to the Canadian Freight Association on January 6, 1898. The Association was created as a tariff bureau for all railways in Canada.

Custodial history:

These records, with the exception of the 1883-1891 minute book, were maintained by the London & Port Stanley Railway in Southwestern Ontario. They were transferred to Library and Archives Canada in 1972 from Edward Phelps, the Regional History Librarian at Western University libraries.
