Sub-series consists of records relating to Canadian aircraft and aircraft markings including:

1) Technical drawings of former aircraft types of the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Forces Air Command, most on microfiche aperture cards. These drawings of parts and equipment were prepared primarily by the manufacturer, but also by the department. The drawings were transferred from the Aerospace Technical Data Support Centre of the Directorate of Documentation and Drawing Services of the Department of National Defence in January 1985. Cards that have been retained show the best overall views of the aircraft, details of markings, and placement of weapon systems. Plans for variants have been kept, such as the CF-104D, showing significant upgrades or changes. In some cases, the only cards for a particular aircraft are of the markings. Details of electrical systems, placement of small components and listings of schedules were not retained.

Aircraft represented: Grumman CSR-110 Albatross; Canadair CP-107 Argus; Canadair CP-107 Argus; De Havilland CC-108 Caribou; Cessna CO-119 Bird Dog; De Havilland CT-120 Chipmunk; Beechcraft CT-128 Expeditor; Fairchild Flying Boxcar; North American CT-156 Harvard II; Hiller CH-112 Nomad helicopter; Sikorsky CH-126 H-34 Choctaw helicopter; Avro Lancaster; MB-3 Glider; North American Mitchell; Lockheed CP-122 Neptune; Canadair North Star; De Havilland CSR-123 Otter; Canadair Sabre; Canadair CF-104 Starfighter; Grumman CP-121 Tracker.

2) Technical drawings of finish schemes, identification markings, rescue markings, disruptive pattern camouflage, United Nations markings, and service and maintenance markings for various planes. Included are Canadian, Army, Defence, Command, Forces, Flash, Maritime, Royal, Red Knight, Roundel, Transport and UN idents and insignias, plus letters and numerals for markings.

Aircraft represented include: the Albatross, Argus, Bristol 170 (Bristol Freighter), C119 (Flying Boxcar), Canso, Canuck, Caribou, CL-84, Cessna (L-19 A and E, L182 D and F), Chipmunk, Comet, Expeditor, Falcon, Harvard, Lancaster, Mitchell, Mustang, Neptune, Norseman, North Star, Otter, Sabre, Vampire, Ventura, Yukon; the helicopters Bell 47D1, Hiller CH112, Iroquois (Bell CUH-1H), Sikorsky MCS-51 (S-51, H5 and H34), and Vertol (CH113, CH113A, H21 and H44); and the missile, Bomarc.

The CP-121 Tracker was a twin-engine anti-submarine patrol aircraft, built for use on the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure (the Tracker's wings folded up to make more space on the deck of the aircraft carrier). Manufactured in the 1950s, it replaced the Grumman Avenger. Designed by Grumman, 99 Trackers were built under license by de Havilland Canada (a hundredth plane was bought from Grumman as a 'pattern plane' and used as a prototype). A large number of Canadian companies were subcontracted to provide components, including Pratt & Whitney Canada who built the engines under license from Curtiss-Wright. When the Bonaventure retired in 1970, the Trackers were moved to CFB Shearwater for coastal patrol and maritime surveillance, then later to CFB Summerside where they remained in service until the early 1990s. Six were then converted for use as forest-fire water bombers by Conair Aviation in Abbotsford B.C.

The CF-104 Starfighter replaced the CF-100 and Sabre-6. Starting in 1961, 200 CF-104s were built for the Air Force by Canadair, Montreal, under licence to Lockheed; from 1963, thirty-nine of the two-seater versions were built by Lockheed - these flew until 1983-1984.
