This accession consists of photographs created to document the operations of the majestic-class aircraft carrier HMCS BONAVENTURE, from 1958-1970. Subjects depicted include the vessel deployments at home and overseas, flight and deck operations, Anti-Submarine training, squadrons attached to the carrier, and photographs related to other Royal Canadian Navy and international ships Bonaventure encountered. Other photographs depict crew duties, visits to ports of call, and ceremonies.

Initially, photos taken by photo technicians to document HMCS Bonaventure were assigned BN item numbers sequentially. After the unification of the Armed Forces, this prefix was reserved for CFB Bagotville, with Bonaventure photos now receiving "BV" item numbers which are followed by the last 2 numbers of the year the photo was taken. For example, BV-67-045 is the 45th HMCS BONAVENTURE image logged in 1967.
