Followed by a speech by Donald Fleming, proponent of the conservative viewpoint, at a public debate on the question ''The Preservation of Individual Freedom in a Planned Society". The following subjects were discussed: democracy, individual freedom; socialism, state socialism; government, government abuse of power; communism, religion; peace, tradition; education; journalism, the press; justice, the legal system; the Constitution; Parliament, parliamentary reform; the Civil Service; the economy, free enterprise system, monopoly system, planned economy. Followed by a speech by Wynne Plumptre, proponent of the liberal viewpoint, at a public debate on the question "The Preservation of Individual Freedom in a Planned Society". The following subjects were discussed: democracy, individual freedoms, freedom of action, freedom of speech; society, modern society; justice, the legal system; the economy, planned economy, nationalization; democracy, civil rights, basic freedoms; federalism, federal-provincial relations, centralization, the Civil Service; nationalism, Canada's destiny. The speakers were introduced by an unidentified moderator and the debate was sponsored as part of one of the CCL's Educational Institutes. <56mn>
