This file contains architectural and design drawings of the Canada pavilion which was designed and built for Expo 67. This structure was intended as a temporary Canadian government-sponsored pavilion located in Expo Area: Ile Notre-Dame. The largest pavilion at Expo 67, it was spread over a nine and a half acre site and consisted of nine related buildings and structures, the most dominant of which was a 100 foot high inverted pyramid known as the Katimavik. Other features to the site included a revolving theatre with five pie-shaped auditoria, a 90,000 square foot main exhibition area consisting of several white roofed smaller pyramids, an outdoor terrace, a sculpture court, an Arts Centre, a bandshell and outdoor performance area, and the People Tree. Other smaller structures included snack bars, an information kiosk, a Sanctuary, a children's creative centre consisting of a nursery school, art, music and drama studios and an outdoor playground. The pavilion also featured more than 150 visual displays and sculptures. The interior of the pavilion consisted of several exhibits and audio visual displays about Canada's geographic diversity, natural resources, history, lifestyles, relationship with the world and future opportunities. The owner and contracting body of this building was the Government of Canada. The design architects were Rod Robbie and Colin Vaughan of the firm Ashworth, Robbie, Vaughan & Williams, Paul Schoeler of the firm Schoeler, Barkham & Heaton; and Matt Stankiewicz of Z. M. Stankiewicz, Ottawa. Project Type: National and Private Participants = Participants nationaux et privés.
