Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by various units at Transport Canada Headquarters. The records are not filed in corporate file folders, but appear to be working files of units involved in strategic policy and legal services activities, including Transport Canada Legal Services, the Programs and Divesture Group, and possibly the Deputy Minister's and/or Minister's offices. Accession includes a wide range of documents covering various topics such as: briefing binders for meetings involving the Minister of Transport; correspondences, meeting minutes, and consultant reports regarding the planning and conceptualization of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada; correspondence addressed to the Minister of Transport regarding the regulation of grain transportation under the National Transportation Act; correspondence involving the ADM Programs and Divesture concerning the monitoring of airport leases; reference documents and correspondence regarding a 1999 court case between the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) and Air Canada; reference documents and correspondence regarding a 2000 court case between Chateau Aéroport-Mirabel and Aéroports de Montréal; the Motion Report for Newfoundland and Labrador v. Canada (Minister of Transport), 2003 FC 1228, addressed to the ADM Programs and Divesture; environmental assessments of the Muggah Creek watershed by firms contracted by the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Public Works; environmental assessments of a highway extension project by firms contracted by the Quebec Department of Transportation and the City of Montreal; copies of Privy Council Orders regarding appointments of the chairpersons of various ports; copies of treasury board submissions; and annual reports or financial statements of major ferry operators (BC Ferry Corp., CN Marine Inc., CTMA Traversier Ltée., Marine Atlantic, Northumberland Ferries Ltd., Société des traversiers du Québec) and the Canadian Ferry Operators Association.
