This sub-series consists of subject and correspondence files created and maintained during and after Warren Allmand's tenure as Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs. Included are subject files, communiques, correspondence, submissions, press clippings, and post-ministry records. Issues covered in this sub-series include Bill C-31, which addressed gender discrimination in the Indian Act in 1985, and other amendments to the Indian Act; the conflict surrounding Gulf Canada in its explorations at Stokes Point; Northern Policy Development program; the Lower Kootenay Indian Reserve land claims; and the OKA crisis. The sub-series also includes correspondence with the Native Friendship Societies and with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake.
