Sub-series consists of personnel files of the Royal Canadian Air Force - Women's Division (RCAF-WD). Shortly after the Second World War, the Department of National Defence (DND) microfilmed these records as microfilm Job 73. After filming, DND destroyed the original paper files.

Canada. Royal Canadian Air Force. Women's Division : The creation of the Women's Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1941 marked a significant step in the history of the Canadian military, as it was the first time women were permitted to serve in Canada's forces other than as nurses. The outbreak of the Second World War did not see an immediate movement of women into uniform. However, by 1941, the mounting pressure from women wishing to join up, as well as an impending shortfall of male recruits, forced the Canadian government to examine the potential role that women could play in the military. At the same time, the expansion of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Canada resulted in a need to staff ground positions at its newly opened military airbases across the country. As a result, on July 2, 1941 the Canadian Women's Auxiliary Air Force (CWAAF) was established, its name changing to the RCAF Women's Division (RCAF-WD) a few months later. The army and navy also opened its doors to women recruits the following year. Members of the RCAF-WD were initially trained for clerical, administrative and support roles. As the war continued, however, women would also work in other positions such as parachute riggers and laboratory assistants, and even in the very male-dominated electrical and mechanical trades. By the end of the war the RCAF-WD totaled some 17,000 members.
