Kerrison, Harry, 1922-2013 : Harry Kerrison was born in 1922 in Hamilton, Ontario. He competed in athletics at the provincial and national levels while in high school. In 1941 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and served in Scotland and Ireland with Coastal Command, which was responsible for anti-submarine warfare during the Battle of the Atlantic. Originally enlisting as a radar technician, Kerrison remustered as a Navigator in 1944.

In 1948, Kerrison earned his Physical Education degree from the University of Toronto. Shortly after finishing his degree, the RCAF developed a physical and recreation branch and opened a school to train new physical education teachers. Kerrison worked with the branch, first as the Physical and Recreation Officer, and later as the Commandant of the Canadian Armed Forces School of Physical and Health Education. Kerrison retired from the armed forces in 1971.

During and after his military career, Kerrison was a well-known figure in the track and field community. He coached the Upland Harriers Track and Field Club from the mid-1960s onwards, and served as the first Executive Director of the Canadian Track and Field Association. As a coach, Kerrison specialized in middle-distance running and often coached alongside his wife, Beryl.

Kerrison coached athletes who won national championships and represented Canada at the Olympic, Commonwealth and Pan Am Games. Kerrison also served as an Officials Observer at the Montreal Olympics in 1976.

Harry Kerrison died at Gatineau, in July 2013.
