Title based on the following caption from the NFB Photo Story: From the tender roots put down on the 4th of May, 1910, when the Naval Service of Canada was officially established, the navy (never a lusty infant) moved into gallant young manhood during the Second World War when the tiny naval force of some 1800 officers and men expanded dramatically to meet the bitter submarine threat stalking the vital supply lines to Britain. Today, the RCN, a mature and vigorous force, marks its Golden Jubilee with a memorable history of achievement and a proud record of battle honours.
