Title based on the following caption from the NFB Photo Story: Probably the most familiar of all household objects, the lowly broom has a long history dating back to primitive man. Missionaries and traders from earliest times discovered natives sweeping their huts with twigs tied to a Stock by a piece of bark. From this early beginning the making of brooms has evolved into a manufacturing process that today, in Canada, involves the skills of thousands of workers in factories, forest and farm. Despite the popularity of the modern vacuum cleaner, the production of brooms is a $16.5 million industry, with 92 Canadian factories engaged in turning out everything from children's miniature sweepers to the specialized curling broom.
