The fonds pertains to the foundation of the Council. It pertains also to the administration of the organisation, to meetings, to the relations of the Council to governmental and non-governmental organisations, to the Council's research program and to the Urban Information Service Project.

The fonds contains documents related to the foundation of the Council in 1962, minutes of the general annual meetings and minutes of the Board and the Research Advisory Committee's meetings. It contains also records documenting the relations of the CCURR to governmental organisations (federal, provincial and municipal) and to funding as well as correspondence with various organisations and with members. It contains research project files and correspondence with researchers. It contains finally records related to the Urban Information Service Project and copies of some Council's publications.

Canadian Council on Urban and Regional Research : The Canadian Council on Urban and Regional Research (CCURR) was founded in 1962. The idea to create this Council came mainly from three organisations : the Royal Architecture Institute, the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities, its general object being to advance learning and distribute available information in urban and regional affairs.

During its existence, the Council initiated and helped research into regional and urban questions. It also brought together the people managing urban Canada to share their experiences, to improve the flow of information to them, to upgrade their education for the complex work in which they were engaged, and at the same time to try better to inform the affected public about urban questions.

In addition to sponsoring a wide range or research projects and conferences the Council published between 1964 and 1976 an annual classified bibliography of Canadian urban documents, Urban and Regional References, covering all significant publications about urban Canada (starting from 1945) and which was the only publication of its kind in Canada. It also started in 1975 publication of a quarterly Journal, Urban Forum (Colloque urbain). During the fiscal year of 1976 funding ceased and in January 1977 the CCURR ceased all but one of its functions, namely publication of Urban Forum which continued until 1982.
