This series holds material relating to John Ralston Saul's university studies at McGill University (1965-1969), PhD Thesis on Charles De Gaulle for King's College, London (1969-1973), and some material related to his secondary education in Oakville, Ontario and youth activities. The most extensive material is the research material and drafts of his thesis on France under Charles De Gaulle, titled "The Evolution of Civil-Military Relations in France after the Algerian War". In addition, the series holds his notebooks for his McGill courses in political science, economics, and history, and his university term papers relating to the Canadian political system; Britain and Western Europe in the 1960s; and the French Revolution, among other topics. His records from Oakville-Trafalgar High School show involvement in the student council and model parliament.
