Sub-series consists of random documents, brought together by the title "From the desk of the Minister" on the box they were in and on some of the files.

As an example, a "general file" contains a C.S.I.S. org chart, Ministry of Justice press release on the McDonald Commission, press material on C.S.I.S., documents contributing to an understanding of how C.S.I.S. evolved, access to surveillance files on individuals, "gating" of inmates in penitentiaries, sex offender treatment programs in prisons, House questions on C.S.I.S., followed by several letters of condolences and a taxi driver's calling card.

A "letters" file holds documents on Queen's Counsel appointment, a Homebuilders' Dinner, the Nanking Massacre (1937), rejection of parole request, cutting university courses from federal prisons for reasons of economy, the movement of R.C.M.P. surveillance files to the Dominion Archives and the Canadian Hearing Society and placement of hard-of-hearing in jobs.

In brief, these documents within these files range from the incidental to very high-level commentary of the prison system and on the R.C.M.P.

Arrangement note:

There was no order to these files, they were simply appended to the tail end of the Minister's Correspondence series. Several of the files throughout this bloc bore the title "From the Desk of the Minister", hence this title was extended to this cluster. These files are ranged by month. They seem to have some similarity with the "Chrons" files in sub-series 5, which ends in 1982. These have some overlap with 1982, and then continue on through 1983.
