Series documents interviews conducted by Margot Trevelyan with Madeleine Parent and with people who worked with and knew Madeleine Parent. The interviews were original research conducted for writing the biography., The interviews discuss the textile industry in Quebec during the 1940s and 1950s including working conditions, the workforce, labour relations with management, employers (Dominion Textiles, Ayers Woollen Mills), owners and executives, local and provincial politics, legal challenges, organizing by Madeleine Parent, Kent Rowley, and Val Bjarnason, and related matters. The interviews also discuss the United Textile Workers of America (UTWA) in Canada, competition from the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA), the influence of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) and the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), and the establishment of the Canadian Textile Council (CTC) and the Confederation of Canada Unions (CCU)., Interviews also discuss labour organizing and labour relations with employers in Ontario during the 1960s and 1970s. Employers discussed include Harding Carpets (Brantford), Puretex, Texpack (Brantford), Artistic Woodwork (Toronto), Penmans and Fleck Manufacturing., In addition to the above, the interviews conducted with Madeleine Parent also discuss her personal life, family, education, and her feedback on the manuscript., Interviewees include Denys Arcand, Azelus Beaucage, Val Bjarnason, Chung Ching Kong, Danielle Cuisinier, Joe Davidson, Lucien Dufour, Jeanine Duhaime, Édouard Gauthier, Grace Hartman, Louise Harvey, Ed Holota, Ray Illing, Maria Iori, George Isla, Lynn Kaye, John Lang, Jim Laxer, Cardinal Émile Léger, Lynn MacDonald, Jean Marchand, Bernard Mergler, Dennis McDermott, Vernon Mustard, Madeleine Olivier, Jean-Claude Parrot, Laurel Ritchie, Laura Sabia, Rick Salutin, Sarah Spinks, James Tester, Bill Walsh and others., Records consist of recorded interviews and related textual documents such as transcripts or summaries of the interviews and hand-written notes.
