Lord Dufferin writes this letter on a stop on their trip to British Columbia. He laments again of not being able to see her Highland home as of yet. He describes the train ride thus far, talking about the excellent fishing, the scenery and the set of cars that he and Lady Dufferin were given to use. He discusses the Indian War, including stories of murdered mail staff and their conductor who had been scalped in the past. The wait staff on the train were Chinese, and Lord Dufferin was overall impressed by the service, commenting on the food as well as the laundry services. While they did not stop to visit Salt Lake City on the way there, they intend to do so on their return trip. Lord Dufferin refuses, however, to show any attention to Brigham Young, calling him a vulgar imposter. Lord Dufferin jokes that they are being followed by a train of American and Canadian journalists, who will most likely tell a tale of horror and heroism for their trip. He intends to go to the theatre in Salt Lake City and give Mr. Sturgis an account of the Mormon actresses.
