This is a preliminary description, please consult the linked accessions. Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Ministry of State for Economic Development, later titled the Ministry of State for Economic and Regional Development (MSED/MSERD).

This series consists of special projects which a number of federal government departments were involved in. Cabinet had given MSED the coordinating role for these projects and the Ministry was responsible for leading interdepartmental meetings.

Custodial history:

The Ministry of State for Economic Development (MSED) was created to formulate and develop new and comprehensive policies applicable to those federal economic programs designed to support the development of the various sectors of the Canadian economy. Policy development, research initiatives, and other activities were undertaken by the ministry in order to coordinate the policies and programs of the "economic departments" of the federal government. At the same time, the ministry was to aim at ensuring that federally conceived policies and programs were developed and implemented in concert with economic initiatives undertaken and economic requirements articulated in the regions by government and the private sector.
