Item consists of a red leather-bound diary, with gold-tooled: "SANDFORD FLEMING OTTAWA 1877" on front cover, with a greeninterior cover with "Diary 1877 " stamped on it, and an interor title as follows: "The Canadian Pocket Diary for 1877", Toronto: Published by Brown Bros, 66 King Street East.

Diary contains pockets to place miscellaneous items, with words indicating where to put letters, postage stamps, and bill stamps.

Diary contains sporadic handwritten entries for the entire year, with accounting information as well. Fleming writes that that from May 21-26, he is on the Steamer Nova Scotian to England. From May 26th until the end of 1877, his diary entries note his travels around the length and breadth of Ireland, England, and Scotland.
