The Labour Standards Branch of the Department of Labour was responsible for enforcing the Fair Wages and Hours of Labour Act, which required employers having contracts with the federal government to maintain certain standards in the areas of hours of work and pay that were articulated in the Act.
The records in this accession consist of complaint files from the St. Laurent Region of the Quebec District. The individual complaint files include letters of complaint and/or complaint forms, and correspondence regarding dismissals, wages owing, holiday and overtime pay, wage calculations, and the resolution of complaints.
