This accession consists of administrative and operational records of the Environmental Protection Service, Quebec Regional Office. Files subjects include programs, committees, technical procedures, sales reports, etc.

The accession also includes records relating to claims arising from the construction of the Chambly Canal. Records include correspondence of the secretary and the superintending engineers of the canal, schedules of claims, legal proceedings and other records. These records were originally created by the Office of the Superintending Engineer, Quebec Canals. Reponsibility for the records later transferred to the Department of Transport, and then to Environment Canada as the responsibility for the management of inland waters moved to those respective departments.
