Dafydd (Dave) Williams : Dave Williams naît le 16 mai 1954 à Saskatoon, en Saskatchewan. En 1976, il obtient un baccalauréat ès sciences avec une majeure en biologie de l'Université McGill de Montréal, au Québec, puis une maîtrise ès sciences du département de physiologie, un doctorat en médecine et, en 1983, une maîtrise en chirurgie de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université McGill. Il termine en 1985 un programme de résidence en médecine familiale de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université d'Ottawa.
En juin 1992, le Dr Williams est l'un des quatre candidats retenus par l'Agence spatiale canadienne parmi 5 330 postulants. Après avoir suivi une formation de base d'astronaute, il est nommé responsable du Groupe de missions et de médecine spatiale au sein du Programme des astronautes canadiens en mai 1993. En janvier 1995, il est choisi pour se joindre à la classe internationale de candidats astronautes spécialistes de mission de la NASA et se rend au Centre spatial Johnson en mars 1995 pour une année de formation et d'évaluation.
En avril 1998, le Dave Williams participe à la mission STS-90 de la navette Columbia en tant que troisième spécialiste de mission. Pendant cette mission de 16 jours, surnommée Neurolab, l'équipage effectue toutes sortes d'expériences en neurosciences, particulièrement sur les effets de la microgravité sur le cerveau et le système nerveux. Le Dr Williams assume également les fonctions d'agent médical de bord et d'ingénieur de vol durant la phase d'ascension, et est formé pour effectuer des sorties extravéhiculaires d'urgence.
De juillet 1998 à septembre 2002, Dave Williams occupe le poste de directeur des sciences de la vie et de l'espace au Centre spatial Johnson, à Houston, au Texas. Avec cette nomination, il devient le premier étranger à occuper un poste de cadre supérieur au sein de la NASA. En 2001, il occupe parallèlement pendant six mois le premier poste d'administrateur associé adjoint responsable de la santé et de la sécurité des membres d'équipage au Bureau des vols spatiaux, au siège social de la NASA.
Le Dr Williams retourne dans l'espace à bord de la navette Endeavour lors de la mission STS-118, dont le lancement a lieu le 8 août 2007. Pendant cette mission, l'équipage réussit l'installation d'un segment de poutre, d'un nouveau gyroscope et d'une plateforme de rangement externe sur la Station spatiale internationale. En prenant part à trois des quatre sorties dans l'espace, Dave Williams effectue le plus grand nombre de sorties au cours d'une même mission. Il établit aussi un record canadien en passant au total 17 heures et 47 minutes à l'extérieur de la station. Le 21 août 2007, Endeavour se pose sur la piste d'atterrissage du Centre spatial Kennedy après une mission de 12 jours, 15 heures et 55 minutes.
Le 1er mars 2008, le Dr Williams se retire du Programme des astronautes canadiens.
