Collection search - Correspondence of the Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians [textual record]

This collection of correspondence files was created by Ralph Goodale who acted as the Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians while he was Minister of Natural Resources. These files cover a wide range of topics relating to non-treaty First Nations and Métis. The correspondents are member of these communities as well as federal ministers, as the Interlocutor role was affiliated with other departments, particularly INAC. Also included is correspondence from the general public and groups who t wanted to share their views with the Office of the Federal Interlocutor.

Files relating to Indian Residential Schools were removed prior to transfer from the Privy Council Office (where the files were left when the Minister moved to Public Works in 2002). The files are housed in Natural Resources Canada file jackets; however, they were not a part of the NRC filing system as the role of the Interlocutor was separate from the functions of the department of Natural Resources.
