The Library series contains a variety of types of textual material : Canadian or foreign published monographs and periodicals; unpublished reports by partners and staff of the firm or by others; manuscript reports and research notes, many by Roderick Robbie himself, others by largely unidentified individuals.

The majority of the items which were once included in the Library series are listed on a document prepared by Robbie Architects Planners (RAP)and this document served as a starting point to build the finding aid to the series. The documents are numbered as per a system elaborated by the firm. The numbers are entered by hand on labels affixed to the cover of each publication or the original folder. Some labels have peeled off and thus the identification of a few publications was left to the judgement of LAC staff.

The Library series was created in 1980 when RAP was formed following the dissolution of the predecessor firm of Robbie, Williams and Kassum partnership. The assets of the latter were distributed amongst former partners and many records, then deemed of no continuing interest, were destroyed. Roderick Robbie included his surviving records in the library, thus forming its core.

The library was meant to be an active component of file management within the firm but actually very few new items were added to original core. In 1985 RAP became Robbie Architects Inc. (RAI) and new projects, such as the Toronto Skydome, commanded their own record keeping systems.

The original list created by RAP may be found in Vol. 51, folder 1 of the fonds.
