The fonds consists of Private Langille's original diary detailing his experiences and impressions while serving with the Yukon Field Force. In the diary, Langille describes his cross-country rail and river journey; settlements including Telegraph Creek, Glenora, Teslin City and Fort Selkirk; impressions of his fellow soldiers and Klondikers. He also describes recreational activities from dances and fishing, to snowshoe competitions, baseball and cricket.

The fonds also includes a transcript of the diary made by one of Langille's grandchildren, a copy of a 1902 regimental Christmas card showing Langille, along with a sketch based on his likeness by one of this grandchildren.

Langille, Robert McCunn, 1867-1911 : Robert McCunn Langille was born at River John, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, on 4 April 1867. A member of The Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry, he served with No. 3 Company, Yukon Field Force, from May 1898 through September 1899. In 1901, he married Adelia Alice Patterson. In May 1902, R.M. Langille attested in the Fourth Regiment of the Canadian Mountain Rifles for service in South Africa. Late in 1902, R.M. Langille was serving as a Serjeant with the Third Regimental Depot of The Royal Canadian Regiment at St. Johns, Quebec. In died in 1911.
