Investment Canada. Investment Development Division : The Investment Development Division worked closely with the provinces and Canadian business community to develop and carry out its investment promotion and communications activities as well as to provide a wide range of investment services to prospective investors.

The Division's investment promotion officers coordinated Investment Canada's participation in major national and international business events.

The Division's investment counsellors provided tailor-made information packages and assistance to investors, using networks of public and private sector contacts coast to coast. Counsellors provided the latest details on a range of key business topics, including regional centres of advanced technology, incentives, energy costs, joint ventures and technology transfer. They assisted the investor to identify and set up meetings with contacts in government and business, helped identify sources of capital and technology as well as potential investment opportunities and partners and helped to define investment proposals.

The Communications group developed the Agency's advertising program and the promotional support materials needed such as audio-visual materials, brochures and pamphlets. Speeches were produced for Ministers and Senior officials while new releases and communications strategies were developed for individual announcements and issues.

On June 25 1993, P.C. 1993-1492, control and supervision of the Investment Development Division in Investment Canada was transferred to the Department of External Affairs.
