Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC) : Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC) was created subject to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act as promulgated on July 16, 1984. It was established as an independent, external review body which reports to the Parliament of Canada on the performance of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). SIRC is supported by a small Ottawa-based staff, and normal operations are delegated to an Executive Director. The Committee (made up of Governor-in-Council appointees) meets approximately nine times per year to review work done and establish priorities for up-coming tasks. SIRC also reviews complaints made against CSIS activities - in cases where it is deemed appropriate, a Member of the Committee may hold a hearing to determine whether any further action is warranted.
