This subseries from the first accession of the fonds contains professional and personal correspondence with other writers, editors, philosophers, students, musicians, friends and family. Among other themes, the correspondence reflects her work as a poet, editor, musician, teacher, philosopher and scholar.

The correspondence has been divided into time periods to correspond to the way the material was kept by the author: material was packed and stored separately each time she moved to a different place, therefore these groupings reflect discernable periods of her life. The series contains the following subseries to correspond to these time periods: Subseries A. Correspondence from the 1980's, Subseries B. Correspondence from 1990-1994, and Subseries C. Correspondence from Aug. 1994-Apr. 1996 (see finding aid for details. In turn, each subseries is divided into subject groupings to reflect the arrangement created by Jan Zwicky. Jan Zwicky does not use a computer to write and therefore, for the most part, exact copies of her letters are not available in the fonds.
