The first file contains a document signed by Aberdeen on behalf of the Queen of England approving the appointment of George Pemberton as the consul of Prussia in Québec City. Pemberton's commission was to assist the King of Prussia's 'subjects and people in their commerce and traffick there'. Also included in the file is the Exequatur signed by the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm, appointing George Pemberton as consul of Prussia in Québec. The official document was signed on April 8th, 1844.

The second file contains documents pertaining to George Pemberton's second son, George Tudor Pemberton. An appointment to be the first lieutenant in the Battalion of Quebec Artillery, signed by A. de Salaberry on May 6th 1863 is found in the file. Also, the marriage contract between George Tudor Pemberton and Sophia Louisa Buchanan, detailing what each party was bringing to the marriage and the stipulations to be enacted following the death of one of the spouses. An interesting point: the marriage contract was based on the fact that both parties had renounced the Coutume de Paris. The document was signed by both parties, as well as the Notary, M. Nolet.

Pemberton, George, 1795-1868 : Not much is known about George Pemberton, although he was well-known person in commerce and politics in and around Québec City.

George Pemberton, born August 2nd 1795 in Ireland, was a prominent figure in Quebec. He was a merchant and partner of the Pemberton Brothers, a timber company based in Québec City. He was an officer of the Committee of trade of Québec in 1829. He was involved in the founding of the Bureau de Commerce de Québec in the 1840s. From being an administrator for Trinity House and his timber business to his political career, he was also interested in mining and railroads.

In the 1830s, he joined the Québec Constitutional Association, created to uphold the Constitution Act of 1791. In 1841, following the Union Act, he was appointed to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, until his resignation in 1849. In 1844, he was appointed as the consul for Prussia in Canada.

He married Hélène-Henriette Desbarats, the daughter of Pierre-Édouard Desbarats, on August 24, 1830.

Their second son, George Tudor Pemberton was born on April 27th 1838. As it is the case with his father, not much is known about him besides that he followed in his father's footsteps. His name is found in the List of Foreign Consulates in British Colonies as the appointed consul for Lübeck on October 29th 1864, for Hamburg on December 6th 1864, as well as the appointed consul for Denmark on September 18, 1878.

In addition to his political career, George Tudor Pemberton was also name first lieutenant in the Battalion of Quebec artillery in 1863. He married Sophia Louisa Buchanan, the eldest daughter of A.C. Buchanan. The marriage took place on September 24th, 1867.
