Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Board of Transport Commissioners and the Canadian Transportation Commission, predecessors of the Canadian Transportation Agency. These records document hearings held before various boards of both Commissions for the years 1941-1972. Records include transcripts of proceedings and evidence exhibits. Exhibits can vary in type from reports, forms, brochures, and photographs.

For records created after the creation of the Canadian Transportation Commission (1967), case numbers found on the finding aid have an attached prefix that identifies the Committee a particular case went to for consideration. 'A' refers to the Air Transport Committee, 'M' refers to the Motor Vehicle Transport Committee, 'R' refers to the Rail Transport Committee, 'Rev.' refers to the Review Committee, and 'W' refers to the Water Transport Committee. 'CPTC' refers to the Commodity Pipeline Committee.
