The records in this accession consists of files created and maintained at the Headquarters of the Atlantic Militia Area. This militia area comprises six militia districts in the four Atlantic provinces, with two in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and one each in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. The Atlantic Militia Area is responsible for coordinating militia activities, including training, participation in Regular Force exercises, and calling on reservists to serve in Regular Force operations.
The records are arranged according to the National Defence file classification system and deal with the complete range of militia activities in this militia area for the years 1972 to 1986.

These records were originally held in Nova Scotia. They were transferred to the National Capital Region in 2016 and are available for consultation there.
