This sub-series consists largely of informational and background information on the matter of Senate reform, to which Pitfield subscribed whole-heartedly. The 6-part file on Senate Reform opens with a number of papers / chapters (by D. Coyne, R.L. Watt, Senator L. Murray et al), as if part of a manuscript. Here one finds Pitfield's 1983 submission to the House of Commons on Senate Reform. There is an important exchange between him and Senator Michael Kirby on this matter, and material on Alberta's Senate Reform initiative. The collations of proposals on Senate reform are a bringing together of provincial proposals on this subject. From this material, one can distil Pitfield's views on the Senate (which he held indispensable to good governance) and his proposals to render it more responsive and effective. This sub-series also constitutes a very useful research bloc for researchers interested in this topic.
