General note:

The National Parole Board was established in 1959. The Board grants, denies and controls the conditional release of inmates from federal institutions and those provincial institutions in provinces without a provincial parole board. The Board also makes recommendations to the Solicitor General for the exercise of the Royal Prerogative of Mercy and for the granting of pardons. These records are case files documenting the time, activities and life of an inmate once the inmate has been released from the penitentiary and is fulfilling the parole requirement of his/her sentence.
