This accession consists of records from various activities performed by the Bureau of Dangerous Drugs. They include general files on controlled and narcotic drugs, including those related to specific drugs, such as methamphetamine, opium, heroin, etorphine, cocaine, etc. Also included are cooperation and liaison files, which provide an aggregate view of all drug activities and control programs existing in government departments, educational institutions, other countries, and provincial governments.

This accession also contains records of licensing bodies, which document the administration of sharing of information with provincial licensing authorities of pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine in matters relating to the purchasing, prescribing, and dispensing of narcotic and controlled drugs when there is evidence of misprescribing, abuse, or other illegal activity.

A significant portion of this accession includes individual files of medical professionals and establishments: physicians, dentists, pharmacies, hospitals and penitentiaries, military medical establishments, licensed dealers, and veterinarians. These were used to monitor the practices of individual medical professionals and establishments to ensure that drugs were used for legitimate medical purposes. The files contain standard correspondence, such as reports prepared by Drugs Directorate inspectors and enforcement agencies concerning the use, misuse, or abuse of drugs by health professionals.

Other records in this accession relate to analysis and research, international drug control, abuse and misuse of dangerous drugs, enforcement, and investigations and prosecutions.
