The series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Canada Communications Group (CCG), a special operating agency reporting to the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC). It had been moved to PWGSC in 1990 from the Department of Supply and Services (DSS), where it was called the Communications Services Directorate. Parts of CCG were privatized in 1995.

This is a prelimnary description, please see attached accessions.

Although the nature and breadth of its responsibilities changed over the years, its predecessors include the Queen's Printer, the Department of Public Printing and Stationary (1886), and the Canadian Government Printing Office in the 1970s.
