Series documents the administration and operation of the Genetic Society of Canada (GSC) including operation of the society, the history of the GSC, the organisation of the annual general meeting and annual conference, and materials distributed to members. Series also documents the involvement of the GSC in social issues, political causes, and communication with other scientific societies.

Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, documents from committee meetings and annual general meetings (agendas, meeting minutes, committee reports, financial statements, reports by treasurer and editor), members materials (handbooks, membership lists, application forms), and a history of the society.

The early years of the GSC are documented through donations made in the 1970s and 1980s by longstanding GSC members Charles Johnson Bishop, E. Roger Boothroyd, Eric Kerber, and Ruby I. Larsen.

Bishop, Charles Johnson : Charles Johnson Bishop was president of the Genetics Society of Canada in 1958. He was a meteorologist with the Royal Canadian Air Force (1942-1945), professor of genetics at Acadia University and research officer and superintendent with the Dominion Experimental Farm, Kentville, Nova Scotia (1947-1959), and researcher and research coordinator with the Department of Agriculture (Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada), Ottawa, Ontario (1960-1985).

Boothroyd, Eric Roger : (Eric) Roger Boothroyd was in attendance as a member of the Planning Committee when the GSC was provisionally organised on 16 February 1955. He served as a director of the GSC (1962, 1963). He was geneticist and professor at McGill University, Montréal, Québec.

Kerber, Eric : Eric Kerber was a director of the GSC in 1977 and 1978. He was a geneticist with the Department of Agriculture (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada), Winnipeg, Manitoba. His research interests included the resistance of wheat to rust.

Larson, Ruby I : Ruby I. Larson was in attendance as a member of the Planning Committee when the Genetics Society of Canada was provisionally organised on 16 February 1955. She was a director of the GSC (1967, 1968) and became a life member in 1976. She was the unofficial GSC archivist from the early 1970s until the mid-1980s. She was a cytogeneticist with the Research Station, Department of Agriculture (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada), Lethbridge, Alberta. Her research interests included the resistance of wheat to insect herbivores.
