Single item consists of an oil painting by Doris Jean McCarthy (1910-1920) entitled, "Clam Digging at Low Tide, Barachois, Gaspé.". This small painting documents the once active shellfish industry in the region. The clam digging industry in this part of the Gaspé saw a significant decline during the course of the 20th century. The painting documents both a former way of life in the Gaspé Penninsula, and the landscape itself which has changed since the time of the painting as a result of tidal erosion and other factors.
