"Once you start a family and you live in the south," says Lynda Brown, "you are bound to be a lifelong urban Inuk." She nods towards the Head Start building - where she is the family and community co-ordinator - a stone's throw from her home. She says her work will keep her rooted here, at least until her children have grown up. Brown left Pangnirtung, Nunavut, when she was six and later met her husband Rob while attending university in Peterborough, Ontario. Work and the Inuit community drew her to Ottawa. "Typical Ottawa story," she says. "We went from me (Inuk) to the two of us (Inuuk) and now a family (Inuit)."
